Will My Memory Improve If I Lose Weight? (Video)

Will My Memory Improve If I Lose Weight? I recently found the following video in which Dr. John Gunstad, associate professor of psychology at Kent State University, describes the results of a study he ran 2 years ago in which memory was improved by losing weight.

Will My Memory Improve If I Lose Weight?

Gunstad wasn’t surprised by the study’s findings. “A lot of the factors that come with obesity – things such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea – that might damage the brain are somewhat reversible,” Gunstad said. “As those problems go away, memory function gets better.”

More details can be found in this article on the Kent State website.

Will My Memory Improve If I Lose Weight? Well, it appears that the more studies that are done the more we see what our brains are capable of when we take care of our bodies as a whole — another good reason to fit exercise into your busy work day. Here are a few ideas.

  • walk the stairs instead of taking the elevator
  • park a little further away from your building
  • take a lunchtime walk
  • walk down the hall to talk to a colleague instead of using the phone or sending an email
  • conduct a “walking” meeting instead of a sit-down meeting

Encourage your colleagues to do the same.
